Master Sergeant Robert Lee Dix, serial number 16029084, was born at Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois on November 30, 1922. He was the youngest of seven children of William Bert Dix (24 Dec 1885 – 11 Sep 1968) and Velda (Boyd) Dix (12 Mar 1889 – 1 Feb 1964), who were born in Illinois. His parents married about 1910. His father was a telegraph operator for the New York Central Railroad at the New York Central Tower in Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois.

Robert Dix served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. His wife was Clara Roberta (Luthardt) Dix (16 Mar 1924 – 6 May 2018). They married at St. Paul Methodist Church in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina on June 5, 1943.

Robert served in the United States Air Force and was discharged from service with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
