Wenatchee World - Sunday, September 12, 2010
Lorraine E. (Austin/Williams) Ochs, 81, of Wenatchee, WA, accepted Jesus' hand on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Lorraine was born on December 5, 1928, to Albert and Essie Austin in Howard County, Arkansas. She moved with her family to Wenatchee in the early 40's, where she waited tables at the local restaurants and packed fruit in the local warehouses. Lorraine was a lover of children and babies, never passing an opportunity to pat a head or pinch a toe. She was addicted to the sound of a child's laugh and often sang and made up songs to get another dose. As a working mother, she recognized and appreciated hard work. She loved gardening and learning about all things made by God; even those that challenged her gardens to grow. Lorraine had a great sense of humor and could be talked into doing almost anything for a laugh. She enjoyed camping, fishing and baseball, especially when her children or grandchildren were involved.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Orville (Kathy) Ochs, Eldon (Lori) Ochs, Dolonne Beem and LauVonne (John) Melton; her grandchildren, April (Michael) Moore, Amy (Damien) Eldred, Krysten and Kaylin Ochs, Tyler and Myka Rix, Angie Beem and Edward Melton; one grandson-in-law, Jason Mathews; great-grandchildren, Gavin Smetzler, Phillip and Matthew Moore, Maggie and Ellie Eldred and Ary and Teegan Rix; one brother, Dois (Wanda) Austin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Debra Ochs; brothers, L.D. and Bill Austin; sisters, Lucille (Austin) Hart, Dess Berger and Jean (Austin) Trudell; one grandson, Joshua Melton; and one granddaughter, Jenny (Ochs) Mathews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverwest Retirement Community for the special care they provided to our mom and grandma. She often said that she could not have had more caring and considerate people to spend her days with. Special thanks to Jim, who encouraged her to explore her artistic talents and kept her busy during her stay.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010, at the Wenatchee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The LLS "Wenatchee Team in Training," 302 Railroad Avenue, Cashmere, WA 98815 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
