Louise was the daughter of Martha Fultz and Daniel Grove. Her mother apparently died when Louise was young but her death information hasn't been found yet.

In 1873, Louise married Callaway M. Flora, a Civil War veteran who had been permanently injured during his service for our country. Their daughter, Teress, was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1874, and son Charles in Kansas in 1877. The family moved to Wichita, Kansas near the end of the Wichita Trail glory days, and Callaway made a living by dealing in livestock.

After the couple divorced in 1884, Louise and her children lived in Wichita, Kansas, and Chicago, Illinois and she supported the family by working as a seamstress.

In the 1890s, Louise moved to Spokane, Washington where she helped start the city's Florence Crittenton Home for unwed mothers and worked as the assistant matron.

Louise's second husband was Ernest Patterson, who she married in Victoria, Canada in 1901. The couple lived in Seattle, Washington and also ran businesses in Nome and Kotzebue, Alaska.

In 1907 Louise bought a 60-acre ranch near Cashmere, Washington where she planted orchards and grew apples until trading the property for land in Seattle in the 1920s. She and her husband also invested in land and built houses and apartments in Seattle, Santa Cruz, and Los Angeles throughout the years.

She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was credited with helping start the Santa Cruz, California chapter.

Through her father, who was married four times, Louise had several brothers and sisters as well as a number of half-brothers and half-sisters.
