Joyce Orrine KITTEL, who established the first child care nursery at Mt. Werner, died December 28, 1993. She was 68.
Joyce was born January 10, 1925, in San Juan, Texas. She spent her childhood in Stockton, Missouri, but graduated from high school in Lyndon, Kansas.
Joyce married John KITTEL in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on May 29, 1943. She moved to Steamboat Springs from Granby in 1967.
Joyce enjoyed being with her family, crocheting, knitting, tatting and quilting; textile and oil painting, house plants, flowers and gardening along with being a wonderful cook.
After establishing the first daycare facility at Mt. Werner, she later moved with the operation to the gondola building at the Steamboat Ski Area, and continued running it until she retired.
Joyce leaves her husband, John, of Steamboat; a daughter, Judy and her husband Alan GROPPE of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two sons, James, of Steamboat, and Jerald and her wife Cheri KITTEL of Prescott Valley, Arizona; one sister, Pearl JAMES of Cheyenne; four grandchildren, Samantha and Ron BURKE of Cheyenne, Karissa GROPPE of Cheyenne and Anode KITTEL of Prescott Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and a grandson.
Services for Joyce were held at the Shearon Funeral Home Chapel on January 01 with Dick McGinn officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Steamboat at Box 5816, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477.
