Aloysius "Al" Winka, 83, of Flora, IL died Friday, September 10, 2010 at 12:00 PM at his home in Flora.
He was born July 29, 1927 in Flora, IL to Theodore & Mary (Rozanski) Winka. He married Dorothy Beard on January 31, 1953 in Flora.
He was a lineman for Clay Electric retiring in 1989 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korea. His memberships include St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Flora, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Flora American Legion Post #14, Flora VFW Post #3999, and was a past Unit #35 School Board Member. Al enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing, the St. Louis Cardinals, and thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Winka of Flora; 4 daughters: Julia Winka of Conifer, CO, Linda Etchison & husband Jeff of Flora, Karen Whitehead & husband Ted of Flora, Susan Burton & husband Stan of Champaign; 2 brothers: Stanley Winka & wife Alberta of Elgin, Ray Winka & wife Irene of Flora; 2 sisters: Stella Eberlen of Pasadena, CA, Lucille Winka of Littleton, CO; 10 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson (Joseph Whitehead), 11 brothers & sisters (Jerry Winka, Claire Marney, Ann Trinko, Helen Lense, Ted Winka, Irene Allen, George Winka, Tony Winka, Bobby Winka, Paul Winka, and Charles Winka).
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday (September 14, 2010) at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Flora with Father Martin Ohajunwa officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Flora, with military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with a 5:30 PM Rosary. Memorials are suggested to the St. Stephen's Respect Life Program
