George Gibson Penn, Sr., born November 25, 1880, in Salem, VA, at one time part of Roanoke, County, son of Lewis George Penn and Mary "Molly" Gray Brooke, married Gertrude Anna Cartwright on August 20, 1914 in Columbus, Franklin County, OH. He served as a railway mail clerk. He died in Jacksonville, Duval County, FL, on February 7, 1933. He was survived by his wife and seven children, George, Jr., Anna Jean, Julia Brooke, Jacinta Lewis, Jeraldine Roberta, Robert Jackson, Sr., and Helen M. His mother, his brother, Charles Baker Penn, his sisters, Mary Eleanor (Penn) McIntosh, and Louise "Lula" Denny Penn, and his brother-in-law, Silas Carter McIntosh, also survived him.

His sister, Annie Ernest (Penn) McIntosh and his father predeceased him.

He was named for his maternal grandfather, Rev. George Gibson Brooke, son of Rev. Benjamin Brooke, Sr. and Hannah (Gibson) Brooke, who had served as a chaplain under General John Imboden during the Civil War.
