Samuel a son of William McAdams and Susannah (Prenter) Adams. His father was born at Clone, Monaghan County, Ireland in 1807 and came to America in 1827.

Samuel and Nancy were married on November 24, 1869, recorded at Rusk County. There were seven children. Samuel's second marriage, on August 08, 1889, was to Fannie Florence Barnett, resulting in the birth of one son, and two daughters. i.e. Leonard Bazzel, Maggie May and Willie Fay Adams.

In 1915, Fannie applied for and received a Confederate veteran's pension from the State of Texas - Pension # 30213.
