Jalal Khazeh was an Iranian HAND OF THE CAUSE born into a Baha’i family in Tehran. When Jalal was 19 years old he married Jamaliyyih, the daughter of Ustad Hasan Ali Mimarbashi Kashani. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters. A former colonel in the Iranian army, he was elected onto the National Spiritual ASSEMBLY in 1944, but resigned in 1951 to become a full-time itinerant teacher visiting Baha’is throughout the country. Shoghi Effendi announced his appointment as a Hand of the Cause on 7 December 1953. He later became one of the custodial Hands in Haifa, and in 1963 moved to Brazil to serve as a focal point for Baha’i activities in South America. He returned to IRAN in 1969. The upheavals of the Islamic Revolution placed him in special danger, and in 1984 he left the country, eventually settling in Canada.
Mr Khazeh spoke English well and some Spanish and he had a mastery of both Persian and Arabic. As a public speaker, he was eloquent and impressed people with his knowledge of the Faith. His humility, devotions and love could always be felt indeed, the name ‘Khazeh’ means ‘humble’. His personal commitment to the Cause of God and his spiritual greatness will be an example for generations to come.
