Herbert Leaming, Chouteau Pioneer, Buried at Benton

Fort Benton, April 2--Herbert W. Leaming, a Chouteau county pioneer who died here Monday of cancer of the stomach, was buried here Wednesday afternoon. Services were held at the Christian church and were conducted by the Rev. Dan W. Brown.

Mr. Leaming spent the last 49 years of his life in Chouteau county, with the exception of living a short time at Chicago.

He was born at Jefferson City, Missouri, April 29, 1866, where he lived for 17 years. He came to Montana with his parents in 1883. His father, Mac J. Leaming, was a pioneer attorney of Fort Benton and was interested in ranching on the Shonkin where Herbert Leaming had a ranch for some years. For the last few years Herbert had been employed by the McLeish & Brown company at the Goosebill.

Mr. Leaming is survived by his mother; a brother, Alexander, and a sister, Miss Mary Leaming, all of Great Falls; a sister, Mrs. Fred C. Church of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother of Los Angeles; and three cousins, C. H. Ragland and A. E. McLeish of Fort Benton, and Mrs. H. N. Ragland of Great Falls.
