She came to the United States as an infant entering at Vanceboro, Maine on October 9, 1914. She was a graduate of Boston-Bouve College, Boston, Massachusetts. In partnership with her twin sister, Helen was the 1931 National Indoor Doubles Junior Champion as recognized by the United States Lawn Tennis Association. She was a teacher and private child care provider.

Helen, a native of Saskatoon, Canada, was the daughter of Christian John Boehm and his wife, Annie Jane Murray. She was the wife of Henry Howe Rathbun, Jr.
