US Congressman. Born the son of newspaper publisher Daniel Read Anthony, he attended the Michigan Military Academy, University of Michigan, studied law, was admitted to the bar but did not practice law. He was appointed Postmaster of Leavenworth, Kansas, served as Mayor of Leavenworth, and was manager-editor of the "Leavenworth Daily Times". In 1907, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixtieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Charles Curtis and reelected to the Sixty-first and to the next nine succeeding Congresses, serving until 1929. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his newspaper business pursuits until his death at age 60.
