Frances O'Bryant Carlin passed away in Norman on Wednesday, September 8, 2010.

Funeral services will 10:00AM Monday, September 13, 2010 at Primrose Chapel with Chaplain Harry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Norman IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.

She was born in Grenada, Mississippi on September 24, 1924 and died at the age of 85. She was the last survivor in a family of 10 brothers and sisters. Frances, her husband Bernard and their three children lived in many locations along the Gulf Coast in their early years due to Bernard's job as a Dredge Boat Captain. After the kids were grown, Frances and Ben settled in the Houston, Texas area for a number of years, where she worked for and retired from Sears & Roebuck, and Ben retired from Naylor Industries. They moved to Norman in 1997 to be near their son, Jack, and his family.

Before suffering from macular degeneration, Frances was an avid reader. She was a sociable person who loved being around people and conversing with them. She and Ben loved to dance and did so with friends on many occasions. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain family and friends whenever she had the opportunity. There was nothing more important to Frances than gathering the family for food and fun.

Frances and Ben were members of the First Baptist Church of Norman, where Frances also served as a volunteer for several years. Her husband Ben passed away in 2007 and is buried in Norman. After his death, Frances moved to Rivermont Retirement Community where she lived for nearly three years before moving to Cedar Creek Nursing Center for additional care.

Frances is survived by three children, Janice (Les) Garrett in Denver, Colorado, Anita Patterson in Houston Texas, and Jack (Sherrie) Carlin in Norman. She had six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a host of friends all over the country.

Visitation will be held from 8:00AM to 9:00PM on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Primrose Funeral Service.
