Born in KY raised in WV. As a boy worked for Western Union; served in the U.S. Navy in the late 1920's; worked on the N.Y.C. trolley cars as a conductor before being accepted by the N.Y.C. Transit Authority as a Car Inspector from where he eventually retired. He fathered 3 children; Gloria, Virginia & Wm. McKinley, Jr. by his first wife Minnie Schmidt who passed in 1945. His second marriage to Merle Brophy produced a daughter Linda. He held many positions in his local American Legion post eventually becoming Commander of the post.
