Born 1854 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania
Died 26 March 1902 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Laborer in civilian life

Enlisted on 2 September 1873 in the 7th U. S. Cavalry.

He was involved in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He was a private in
McDougall's Company B, who were in charge of the pack train. The pack train was
some ways back when the actual battle began, but they were before long up to
what is now known as Reno Hill, where the commands of Marcus Reno, Frederick
Benteen and Thomas Weir were fighting for their lives. The pack train was able
to supply much needed ammunition to them, though they were too late to be of any
aid to Custer and the commands under him. Woods would fight on the hilltop
throughout the rest of the battle.
