MALINDA HAIN DEPARTS LIFE

Resided in Crawford County Fifty Years. A beloved and Respected Lady

Malinda Slater, daughter of Isaac and Catherine Slater, was born on March 5, 1855, in Cedar County, Iowa. She was married to Jasper Hain on January 6, 1876, at Sugar Creek, Iowa. Soon after their marriage they came o Crawford county, and settle in the Pretty Prairie community, where they reside for nearly 25 years. To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive their parents. They are: Daisy Bonesteel of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Zella Iseminger of Imperial, Nebr.; N. E. Hain of La Habra, Calif.; May Walworth of Dow City, Iowa; Frank Hain of Buck Grove, Iowa; Bernice Arndt of Dalton, Nebr.; Foster Hain of Denison; and Dean Hain of Oakland, Iowa.
It was in the year 1900 that Mr. and Mrs. Hain moved to Buck Grove, where they made their home till the time of Mr. Hain's death on February 13, 1915. After the loss of her husband, Mrs. Hain moved to Dalton, Nebr., where she made her home for a period of two years, then decided to break up housekeeping and spent the following years among her children. Mrs. Hain had been in failing health for a number of years, but had been quite active until about two weeks ago, when she was confined to her bed at the home of her son, Foster, on West Court street, Denison, and gradually sinking till the end came on August 28, 1926. At her death she had attained the age of 71 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Mrs. Hain united with the United Brethren Church at Pretty Prairie in her early life and remained a faithful and consistent member all her life. She leaves behind her the example of a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor and one who was loved by all who knew her. Her strength of character was shown in sympathy and love for friends and loved ones She was patient in her suffering and always appreciated every act of kindness.
The departed leaves to mourn he loss her eight children, all of whom were at her bedside at the time of her death, except H. E. Hain of California, 30 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, thee brothers, J. T Slater of St. Joseph, Mo., P. A. and I. M. Slater of Wilton Junction, Iowa, Mrs. C. M. Passmore of Guthrie Center, Iowa, and Mary E. Phipps of Gary, Ind., besides countless friends.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev F. E. Hamlin at the Presbyterian church. Burial took place in Oakland Cemetery.
