After a lingering illness of several years, J. E. Atkinson passed away at his home in this city, on Saturday, January 8, 1916. He had a cultured mind and was a man of integrity and high morals. He was a great student of trees, flowers and fruit. Capt. C. F. Nye and Dr. G. W. Collins paid tribute to their friend in short addresses. He was born in Green county, Wisconsin March 15, 1863.

Mr. J. E. Atkinson, died at his home in Pawnee City Saturday morning after an illness of over two years of cancer of the stomach of which he suffered intensely. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at home and interment was had in the Pawnee City Cemetery.
