Enlisted, July 24, 1917, in Troop F, 1st NY Cavalry Regiment. Appointed 2nd Lieutenant Signal Corps, November 28, 1917. He was assigned to the 217 Field Signal Battalion serving as the Battalion Adjutant.

He was stationed at Little Silver, NRJ; Camp McClellan, AL; Washington, DC, and Camp Beauregrad, LA.

He was discharged from the service February 4, 1919.

His brother Abner Hunter Platt also served in the 1st NY Cavalry Regiment
