Mrs. Martha McIntyre, 91, Marcus, formerly of Fort Dodge, died Monday afternoon at Sioux Valley Hospital, Cherokee, where she had been a patient since suffering a stroke February 23, 1972. Services will be 9 a. m. Thursday in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home and at 9:30 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. Msgr. E. L. McEvoy, pastor, will officiate at a Requiem High Mass. Burial will be in Corpus Christi cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening in the funeral home where friends may call after 10 a. m. Wednesday. Surviving are a son, Bowen McIntyre, Fort Dodge, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Martha Bowen was born at Plainfield, Iowa and came to Fort Dodge with her parents when she was a child. She attended school here.
James A. McIntyre, age 29, son of Patrick and Catherine (Burns) McIntyre married Martha A. Bowen, age 22, daughter of Philip and Nora (O'Connell) Bowen on August 16, 1906 by Father H. P. Rohlman, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church. The ceremony was witness by Emmet O'Connor, cousin of the groom and Margaret Bowen, sister of the bride.
The 1930 US census shows James (52) and Martha (48) with children Alexius (19) and Katherine (16) living in Fort Dodge.
Her grandchildren are James McIntyre, Michael McIntyre, Christine McIntyre, Mrs. Ivan Metzger, Dennis Alpers and Julie Alpers, Mrs. Robert Franklin.
Her husband, James A. McIntyre, a pioneer grocery man in Fort Dodge died November 6, 1937. Her daughter, Kathryn, Mrs. Ernst Alpers died June 13, 1960. Two infant daughters, Mary, died in 1908 and Margaret died in 1909. After her husband's death, Martha continued to make her home here until 11 years ago when she moved to Marcus, Iowa and resided with Mrs. Bess Nolan.
