Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 20, at the funeral home.

Royce was born September 3, 1921 in Florence, Texas to John Alson Brooks and Donie Lee Lindsey Brooks. His father relocated the family to the Drasco Community, Runnels County, Texas in 1924, where they farmed. After the death of his father, Royce, age 13, and his mother continued the farm until l940 when they moved to Winters, Texas.

Royce married Ruby Raye Shott on July 18, 1942. After serving in the Air Force for 39 months, he and Ruby moved to Abilene in May 1950 where Royce worked for D & W Tire Company. In 1957, he purchased D & W and renamed it Royce Brooks Garage. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Abilene Better Business Bureau in 1969, and an early supporter of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. Forever mindful of the trust and assistance given to him in early life, Royce quietly assisted others by deed and example. Retiring in 1992, he cared for Ruby until her death March 11, 1993. They were both longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church.

Royce was preceded in death by his wife Ruby; sister Ida Downing Brooks; brothers Irvin Brooks, Rev. Emmett Brooks and Carl Brooks.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Suzanne Howard Brooks of Valrico, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Bonita and Dick Wildman of Abilene; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kathy Campbell Brooks of Abilene; grandchildren, Lance Brooks of Madeira Beach, Florida; Lisa Brooks of Tampa, Florida; Steve Wildman of McQueeney, Texas; and Brent Wildman and wife, Tiffany, of Abilene; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Bill Gillis, Bob Hatcher, Gil Leonard, Chuck Tarver, Don West, and, Goza Tolle.

Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922. Abilene, Texas 79604. The family wishes to express thanks to Dr. B.J. Estes for many years of devotion and kindness to the family.
