Robert F. Jahnel, 89, of Blair, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Visitation at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Robert Frederick Jahnel was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Blair to Fritz and Mary (Schmidt) Jahnel. He lived and farmed in Blair all his life.
On Feb. 1, 1945, he married Venda Christensen at First Lutheran Church in Blair.
Mr. Jahnel served in the United States Army Infantry from June 1941 to October 1945. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaigns of WWII. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Service Star. After leaving the Army, he continued to farm in Washington County. After retiring from farming he hauled grain for Tyson Elevators.
Mr. Jahnel is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Dean Christensen of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tracy Jahnel of Blair; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Harriet Palle of Blair.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Venda; brothers, Harry, Walt, Ray, and infant brother; and a sister, Hazel Christiansen.
Memorials are suggested to the Blair Rescue Squad.
