EDWARD LEE MARTIN: 72; Vernon, a highly regarded farmer of Vernon was found dead Wednesday afternoon off Rt 88 about 25' from the Ohio side of the state line, after he was reported missing from his home since early Monday. The top of his head had been blown off with a shotgun. Dr JC Henshaw-coronor, gave a verdict of suicide. MrMartin had complained of pains in his head for the last few weeks. Neighbors & friends had been searching the countryside since MrMartin failed to return Monday afternoon after having been missing from his home all day. He took a shotgun with him. On his walks MrMartin used to shoot at crows, Deputy Sheriff Lou Parry said. When he left home early Monday MrMartin went to the Stambaugh-Frampton sawmill where he was last seen. MrMartin was found by John Trapp-a farmer. A shotgun was lying across the victim's body. He was born 28 Jun 1871 at Dixon TN, a son of George & Margaret Johnson Martin. In 1900 he came to Vernon where he resided ever since.
On 22 Dec 1898, Mr Martin was married to Edna Brockway who survives. He also leaves a dau: MrsHilda Thompson-Burghill; 2 bros: William-Burghill; James-Kinsman; 3 sis: MrsAnna Bernhard-Massillon; MrsElla Rowland-Greenville PA & Mrs Cora Rowland-Joliet MT.
The body is at McCurdy Funeral Home in Kinsman where the family will greet friends. Services will be held there Sat with Rev LH Stebbins officiating. Burial will be made in Kinsman Cem.
