By his teenage years, he had grown to be 6 feet tall and was an all-around athlete, playing football, wrestling, pole vaulting and running track. He once seriously injured his knee in a football game, but refused to quit until the game was over. Even though the injury kept him off the field later, he attended every practice and game while recovering, his father, Greg Livingston said. Walton was an accomplished musician too. He had been trained to play the saxophone, but could play just about any instrument he held, Kline-Livingston said. He was a pen and ink artist, who created cartoons and designed the Celtic-appearing tattoo on his right arm, she said. Walton played his share of practical jokes, mostly directed toward his sisters, his parents said. He once sprayed cooking oil on dinner dishes his sister had washed so her parents would continue to assign her the chore until she got it right. Once caught, he revealed it kept him from having to get dishwater hands, his mother said. ‘Very patriotic'.

Kline-Livingston said her son planned to join the military, following in the footsteps of her husband. The teenager also steered friends into doing the same."He was very patriotic," Kline-Livingston said. "He was always driven to stand up and do the right thing, and encouraged others in his life to do the same." Many of his pallbearers were high school friends now serving in the armed forces." We realize the loss of our son isn't just a loss for us," Kline-Livingston said. "He touched so many for a kid his age." "He was a gift to a lot of people that he came in contact with," Livingston said.
