William, who resided at 611 West Thirtieth Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Captain on the S.S. Cities Services Empire, Merchant Marines, during World War II.

William was declared "Missing In Action" when his ship was torpedoed and sunk off Ft. Pierce, Florida.

He had served in the Merchant Marines for eight years at the time of his death and was decorated with the Mariner's Medal.
