Alfred A. Clewell, 69, of 646 William St., Pen Argyl, a retired butcher, died yesterday at 9:40 p.m. at his home of a coronary embolism.

Born in Crackerspoint, Lehigh County, of April 8, 1885, he was a son of the late Owen and Carolina Zellner Clewell. In his early life he had worked as a farmer, residing in Plainfield Twp., where he later became employed as a butcher by Russell Gum and Claude Hartman. Mr. Clewell than operated a butcher shop in Pen Argyl for one year, retiring last June, because of ill health.

Mr. Clewell was a member of Dryland Evangelical and Reformed Church, Hecktown. He was known as a deep-sea fisherman.

Surviving are his widow, the former Ida E. Meixell; two sons, Howard A., of Pen Argyl R. D. 1, and Floyd D., of Pen Argyl; one daughter, Mrs. Clayton Hughes, of Nazareth R.D. 3; one brother, Charles, of Philadelphia; two sisters, Mrs. Howard Kichline, of Bethlehem, and Miss Mary Clewell, of Nazareth R.D. 1, and eight grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Minerva Snyder, of Philadelphia, died on Jan. 15.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Schmidt Home, Wind Gap.
