He died Nov. 24, 1949, being the last of his siblings to survive. He married Louisa Webb, Oct. 15, 1895, she died Jun. 3, 1948. Rev. Jasper L. Douthit of Shelbyville had been his uncle. Surviving were nieces, Mrs. W. G. Rice of San Jaun, TX; Mrs. E. T. Swiney of St. Louis; Mrs. Mike Albert of Montgomery, IA; Mrs. Royal Stone of Mattoon; Mrs. Katherine Bottrell and Mrs. Ray Elam of Windsor.
