Hazel E. Axtell, 92, of Manassas, formerly of Arlington and Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Prince William Hospital. Born May 30, 1914, in Kents Store, she was the daughter of James and Luella Ruckman Swecker. On Jan. 1, 1930, in Ellicott City, Md., she married Dick L. Axtell, who preceded her in death on April 5, 1990. For more than 49 years, Mrs. Axtell was a resident of Arlington, where she worked as a teller for over 20 years for the former Old Dominion Bank. She also was a resident of Fredericksburg, where she was a member of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church from 1979 to 2003. Hazel also belonged to the Landmark Yacht Club, based in Aquia Harbour, and the Prince Georges Yacht Club, based in Fort Washington, Md. Mrs. Axtell recently was a regular attendee of Victory's Crossing Church in Manassas. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Arline Trongtonil and her husband, William, of Alexandria, and Carolyn Edge of Manassas; one son, Richard "Buddy" Axtell and his wife, Jeanne, of Burke; one sister, Gladys Wright of Harrisonburg; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 9320 West St., Manassas, where a funeral will begin at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor Arlie Whitlow officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
