The funeral for Paul Neis Sr., 86, of Devils Lake, formerly of Esmond, was held Wed. at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery. He died April 29, 1996 at the Lake Region Lutheran Home in Devils Lake.
Fr. Lawrence Haas was celebrant. Pallbearers were Keith, Kelly, Bradley, Michael, Gerald, Gary & Dean Neis. Honorary pallbearers were Denise Pfeiffer, Darlene Bush, Paula Oakland & Kristine Neis. The Aaker, Dunnigan & Brooks Funeral Home of Devils Lake was in charge of arrangements.
Paul Neis Sr. was born Jan. 23, 1910 in Selz to Lawrence & Helen Schneider Neis. He attended school there. He married Annie Wentz Sept. 28, 1936 in Esmond. They farmed near Esmond until retiring in 1973 & moving into Esmond. In 1992 they moved to Devils Lake.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Paul Jr. & Colleen Neis of Devils Lake & Jerome & Monica Neis of Carrington; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Joe (Frances) Wentz of Esmond; & a brother & sister-in-law, Jerome & Ann Neis of Esmond.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve; a sister, Katie Wiest; & a stepbrother, George Heilman.
