Gertrude Francis Hurst, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 in the Copley Manor of Morrisville.

She was born Nov. 8, 1918 in Wolcott, the daughter of the late Asbury and Mamie (Stevens) Allen. She attended East Hill School in Wolcott and graduated from Hardwick Academy in the Class of 1935.

On May 31, 1937, she married Earl Franklin Hurst in Keeseville, N.Y. They made their home in Wolcott for more than 32 years before moving to Morrisville in 1967.
Gertrude was employed at the Hardwick Knitwear until she retired in the mid 1960s. She remained active by selling Avon, reading, cooking, embroidering, sewing and flower gardening. She enjoyed the time that she spent with her grandchildren.

She was affiliated with the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene and past member of the Wolcott American Legion Post # 8 Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Clifford Hurst of Manchester, N.H., David Hurst and his wife, Carolyn, of Franklin, N.H. and William Hurst and his wife, Sheila, of Gilmanton, N.H.; two daughters, Carolyn Hale and her husband, Lawrence, of Morrisville and Marjorie Fitch and her husband, David, of Woodbury; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Earl, on Oct. 31, 1988; and nine siblings, Donald, Gordon, Robert and Paul Allen, Evelyn Wyman, Hazel Church, Dorotha Lambert, Barbara Viele and Kathryn Benson.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Jeff Adams officiating.

Burial will follow in the family lot in the Fairmount Cemetery in Wolcott.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northern Vermont Funeral Service, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick.
