He was born August 10, 1911 in Sandy, Utah to Adolph and Lydia Benson. On August 22, 1941 he married Beryl Butler DeSpain, who preceded him in death on January 14, 1953. He married LaVerne Stewart Leonard on February 25, 1954.A lifelong resident of Sandy, he graduated from Jordan High School, Class of '31, and briefly attended the University of Utah where he played football as a freshman. Farming was his vocation of choice and he later worked in the transportation department of the Jordan School District where he was a bus driver for 50 years. He built his own house and lived in it for 48 years. A convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he remained active all his life, serving in a variety of positions and callings.
