C.O. Neville was born 8 Oct 1802 in Tennessee. He was the son of Rachel (Killebrew) and George Washington Neville. C.O. moved to Illinois from Kentucky in 1830. He worked the land, owned a blacksmith shop, and operated stores in Mackinaw and Eureka. He was the first postmaster of Mackinaw, served as a school and county commissioner in Tazewell County, and helped his brother-in-law, John Lindsey, and family friend Ben Major, establish Eureka College in Eureka. He served in Company C, 139th Illinois Infantry in the Civil War. C.O. was married first to Mary Ross and then to Elizabeth L. Lindsey. One of his sons, James S. Neville, became mayor of Bloomington, IL in 1904.
