Mr. Cecil B. Alexander, 81, of Griffin, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Spalding Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Alexander was born in Henry County on Jan. 6, 1927, to the late J.D. Alexander and the late Bertha Biles Alexander. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Caroline Alexander, and brother, Alton Alexander. After the death of his father, his mother moved the family to Spalding County, where Cecil helped his mother with their farm. He graduated from Spalding High School in 1945 and worked at Spalding Knitting Mill and at Ed Smith Chevrolet. In 1948, Cecil married Evelyn J. Cook, they moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1957, where he worked as an automobile technician for 32 ½ years for Orange Buick. In 1989, they moved back to Spalding County. During his retirement years, Cecil enjoyed his garden, orchard, yard work, hunting, fishing, bowling and woodworking. Mr. Alexander served as a Deacon for over 50 years in many churches. At the time of his death, he was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cook Alexander; and many cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Cecil Biles Alexander will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Rehoboth Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Cook, the Rev. Robert Cook and the Rev. Jesse Dasher will officiate. Interment will follow in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Alexander will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Rehoboth Baptist Church, 1304 Barnesville Road, Griffin, GA 30224, or to a charity of your choice in memory of Cecil.
