NEW YORK, Feb. 24.-- Professor William C. Russell died at his residence in Yonkers, today, of paralysis, aged eighty-two.

Professor Russell was born in 1814, and was the son of W. R. Russell, an old New York York merchant, and Lucy Ellery Channing, sister of Rev. William Ellery Channing, the noted Unitarian divine.

He was graduated from Columbia College in 1832, and it is believed was the oldest graduate of that institution. He was graduated from the Harvard law school in 1834 and practiced law in New York for thirty years. He was elected a professor in Antioch College, Ohio, in 1865, and of Cornell University in 1868. He left there in 1881 and was a professor in Brown University. Seven children survive him.
