Capt Sonoski was tragically killed along with Capt Juli-Ann MacKenzie, when their CH-146 Griffon helicopter crashed during a search and rescue mission near Goose Bay, NL.

Aged 39, he was from Etobicoke, Ontario. He enlisted on August 29, 1988 following in the footsteps of his father, a bomber pilot in WWII. Capt Sonoski had been posted in Goose Bay for about a year. He was an active member of the Birch Brook Nordic Ski Club.

The son of Frank and Francis Sonoski, Colin leaves behind his wife Sharon Singleton and their two children Jenna and Liam, a brother and three sisters, along with other relatives, colleagues and friends.

Funeral was held July 24, 2002 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Milton, ON.
