My wife, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Morna Merkley Grant, age 82, slipped peacefully into Heaven on Sept. 3, 2010 after 3 months of battling angioplastic carcinoma of her thyroid.

She was a faithful descendant of pioneer stock on both sides of her family. She was born March 24, 1928 in Duchesne Utah; one of 6 children of Wilson and Faye Merkley. She graduated as valedictorian of Duchesne High School in 1946; she loved learning. She married Lloyd Grant for eternity on Oct. 17, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

They were married just shy of 60 wonderful years and are an example of love and companionship. She has 4 sons who were her pride and joy. She left a legacy of service and unconditional love to her family. She served as a homemaker, an Avon lady, Relief Society President, Bishop's wife, Missionary in Columbus Ohio, a Temple Ordinance worker for 14 years in both the Provo and Vernal Temples, and in countless other callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony of Christ was so strong that she slipped easily into the paradise of her Savior's arms.

Morna raised 4 sons and enjoyed and followed 29 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She knew all their names and birthdays and cared deeply for each, telling them often of her abiding love. She loved to cook, can, sew, bake, cut hair, read, do genealogy and family history, be outside, go to sporting events; and follow Lloyd, her sons, and her grandchildren everywhere. She made her house a home and welcomed everyone.

Morna is survived by a brother and sister; Hal Merkley of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Donna Merkley Odekirk of Kearns; her husband of 60 years, Lloyd Grant, Duchesne; her sons Dennis L. (Monica) Grant, Daryl L. (Valenna) Grant, both of Duchesne, Marlin J. (Joni) Grant of Logan, and Tony R. (Pennie) Grant of Duchesne. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilson and Faye Merkley, as well as her brothers Kirk, Phillip and Kipp Merkley. Her last desires were to have her family come unified unto Christ and her last words were "I love you".

Her viewing will be held on Wed., Sept. 8, at 9:30a.m. in the Duchesne Utah Stake Center with the funeral service following at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the missionary program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Burial will be in the Duchesne City Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary.
