Helen Dittmer was born Sept. 28 1896, near Long Grove, to William and Fannie Little Dittmer. She and Elmer Benning were married in Davenport March 1, 1916. He died in 1963. She had assisted her husband in the café business and later in the feed and seed business. She was a member of DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship and its Naomi Bible study group.

Mrs. Benning died at Westwing Place, DeWitt, on Saturday, Nov. 30 (1985). The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon in Schultz-McGinnis Funeral Home with the Rev. Alfred Pautsch officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.

She is survived by a daughter, Margery, of DeWitt. Preceding her in death were her husband, a son, a daughter, two sisters, and two brothers.
