Dr. Joe C. Carrington, Jr was a graduate of Austin High School in 1933 and attended Texas A&M University and graduated from the University of Texas in 1938 with a BA in chemistry. He received his DDS degree from Atlanta Southern [now Emory] Dental College in 1942. During World War II, he served as a dental surgeon with the 158th combat engineer battalion and received battle stars for five major battles in Europe. He was honorably discharged from the US Army as a Captain and began practicing dentistry in Austin where he remained for the next 30 years. He was a member of Tarrytown Baptist Church, Kiwanis Club, a charter member of the Humane Society, Austin Lodge No. 12 AF & AM, Ben Hur Shrine Temple and was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America locally and nationally. He was a member of Austin District Dental Society, Texas Dental Association, American Dental Association, Pierre Fouchard Academy, International College of Dentists.

Survived by his wife - Bettie Jean Bunnell Carrington; one son - Joe C. Carrington, III; daughters - Carol Ann Pitts, Adrienne Arnold, and grandchildren.
