Harrison Pope, 78, retired Boston contractor, died today at his home, 90 Humphrey Street, Swampscott, after a long illness.

Born in Liverpool, England, he had lived for 40 years in Roxbury, moving to Swampscott upon his retirement six years ago. He was a member of the Highland Club of Roxbury.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lillian T. Pope, a son, Dr. H. Graham Pope of Swampscott, a surgeon in the Coast Guard, a daughter, Miss Esther Pope of Swampscott, a sister, Mrs. Edith Downard, and a brother, Lt. Comdr. Alfred T. Pope, both of Liverpool.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, from the Richardson Funeral Home in Lynn, with services at the Holy Name Church in Swampscott. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
