Miss Mazie Walker and Ted Belles of New London Married

New London (IA) -- Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the parsonage of the Methodist church at Iowa City, occurred the marriage of Miss Mazie Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Walker, and A.O.M. 3/c Ted Belles, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Belles, all of New London. The Reverend L. L. Darrington, pastor of the Methodist church, read the single ring ceremony which was witnessed by the bride's mother and the groom's parents. For her wedding the bride wore a powder blue dressmaker suit with black accessories. Later this week the couple will leave for San Diego, California, where the groom expects to be stationed for a time before being sent overseas.

Both the bride and groom attended New London high school. After graduating, the bride attended the College of Commerce at Burlington where she was affiliated with the Pi Rho Zeta sorority, and has since been employed as stenographer and invoice clerk at the West Burlington shops where Mr. Belles also worked before entering the armed service 18 months ago.

Mr. and Mrs. John Belles were hosts at a family dinner at their home Tuesday evening in honor of their son and his wife.

Mazie E. Walker-Belles, 69, of 7126 West Beryl, Peoria, Arizona, formerly of New London, died at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 1995, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant following a long battle with cancer.

Born November 18, 1925, in New London,she was the daughter of George P. and Verona Dotson Walker.

A 1943 graduate of New London High School, she had been a secretary for the CB&Q Railroad and for the state of Arizona for 13 years before retiring. She was also a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her mother, Verona Walker of New London; one daughter, Carol Williams of Peoria, Arizona; three sons, Mark D. Belles of Glendale, Arizona, and Mitchell W. Belles and Steven P. Belles, both of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera Virden of Mount Pleasant, and Jean Brunk of Kahoka, Missouri; and her long-time companion, Jean Leonard of Peoria, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call after noon today, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Elliott Chapel in New London.

The funeral for Ms. Walker-Belles will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel with the Reverend David Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
