Prior to service in 1st SC Artillery, Henry Culberson served in the 16th Georgia
Volunteer Infantry Company E "Cobb Infantry" which was organized at Habersham
County, GA by B Edward Stiles. Official records of the CSA show he enlisted in the 16th
as a private on July 24, 1861. He was appointed Corporal. He was discharged on account of
disability at Richmond, VA on Sept 2, 1862.

Carded records show he enlisted in 1st SC Artillery on March 7, 1863 at Habersham, GA for
a period of "3 years or war." Company Muster Rolls show him present May - Aug
1863. He was discharged (no reason given) on Sept 4 1863
