John J. Bradley was one of the eight children of Perry and Minerva Bradley. He moved with his parents to Georgia and is found in their household at the time of the 1850 Murray County, Georgia census. This part of Murray County later became Whitfield County.
He enlisted as a Confederate soldier at Dalton, Whitfield Co., Ga. on Jan 15, 1862 in Co A, 36 (Broyles') Georgia Infantry. He was a private. Along with his brothers Jasper Perry and Crayton Bradley, he was at the surrender at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 9, 1863. His name appears on an Oath of Allegiance.
John married Nancy E. Hill on 2 Sept 1870 in Whitfield County, Georgia. They were the parents of two sons and two daughters. These four children are also buried in the Clearwater Cemetery.
