Heimbigner: ( b. Mar 21, 1916, d. Dec 27, 2000) "Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec 30, at the Zion Congregational Church in Ritzville for Walter R. Heimbigner, a lifelong resident of Adams County. Mr. Heimbigner died Wednesday, Dec 27, 2000, at Lakeridge Care Center in Moses Lake. He was 84 years old. Born March 21, 1916, at Marcellus, he was one of eight children born to Jacob and Lydia (Weber) Heimbigner. He attended schools in Lincoln County, graduating from Odessa High School in 1933. He worked for farmers in the area for several years. In 1938 he attended Washington State College (now University), where he pitched for the cougar freshman baseball team for one season. He then worked for Boeing for several years before entering the US Army, serving from 1942 to Nov 1945. In 1946, Walt worked for the Centennial Flour Mill in Ritzville. He met Dorothy Schragg, and they were married on May 30, 1948. In 1949, he began working for the Marcellus Grange Supply, delivering gas, diesel and stove oil. After working 37 years for the Grange, he retired in 1985. Through the years, he loved baseball, playing for the Marcellus Grange and other area teams. He was a member of the Zion Congregational Church, a charter member of Odessa Post #7395 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Ritzville C J Newland American Legion Post and a member of the Ritzville Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, at the family home in Ritzville; two sons, Steven Heimbigner, of Prescott, and Randall Heimbigner and wife Sandra, of Ritzville; a daughter, Barbara Heimbigner of Spokane; a granddaughter, Sasha Roine Stanton, and 3 brothers, Eldon Heimbigner, of Ephrata; Martin Heimbigner of Spokane; and Richard ‘Duke' Heimbigner, of Helena, MT. Pastor Sandra Sparks officiated at the funeral. Interment followed at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery, Danekas Funeral Home, Ritzville, was in charge of arrangements." (Odessa Record: 1-04-2001)
