She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bill Smith; Her children; Curtis Smith and infants, Denver Lee, Glenis Ray and Harold Don Her Brothers: Arthur Smith and Jack Smith; Sisters: Edna Barnes and Genopal Wiggins; Her brother-in-law; Charlie Barnes, and a very special uncle and aunt Clyde and Laura Patterson whom she lived with after her fathers death until she married.
Bertha is survived by one daughter, Wilma Barnes and husband Don of Girdler; One daughter-in-law, Betty Smith of Girdler; One Brother, Lloyd Smith and wife Shirley of Huntsville Alabama; Her sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Smith of Heidrick and Flossie "Clarisy" Smith of Girdler. Bertha is also survived by her grandchildren, Susan Smith Rahman and husband Cy of Jacksonville Florida, Gina Smith of Corbin, Sherry Starkand husband Danny of Barbourville, Jennifer Riley and husband Roddy of Girdler, Ryan Barnes and wife Courtney of Irvine Kentucky; Her great-grand children, Matthew, Megan, Max, and Sarah Ellen Buchanan of Jacksonville, Florida; Amanda and Alexis Stark of Barbourville and Hannah Riley of Girdler.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Smith will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday December 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M with Rev. Floyd Isaacs, Rev. Keith Duncan, and Rev. Ronald Riley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gilbert Cemetery at Girdler with nephews, serving as pallbearers.
