Mary Louise Bixler was born in Adams County, Iowa March 29, 1855 and died February 3, 1949 in Hamilton, Montana at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 5 days. She was the daughter of John and Savilla Bixler, the fourth child of the family of twelve. Her parents came to Adams County in a very early period being one of the very first settlers. She resided in Adams County all her life, with the exception of a little time spent with her children in other states. She was the last of her family.
On March 24, 1875 she was united in marriage to Edward Lamb Hoyt and to this union six children were born, all of whom survive. They are Katie Belle Coontz of Portland, Oregon, John E. of Spokane, Washington, Geroge Carl of Snelby, Montana, Edward L. of Corning, Mary Luella Barrett of Hamilton, and Myrtle Esther Jensen of Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. He husband and one grandchild, Max Hoyt Barrett preceded her in death.
She was united with the Church at a young age and has always kept her faith in the Lord. She always was ready to help anybody that needed assistance and carried the pioneer spirit with her to the last.
The past eighteen months she has lived with her daughter, Luella Barrett at Hamilton, Montana, where she received the very best of care. Mrs. Barrett accompanied her home.
Relatives and friends alike will miss her and in her passing has lost another one of its pioneers.
Services were held Tuesday, February 8, at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church in Corning, conducted by Rev. Joe Tom Tate, assisted by Rev. R. T. White. Music was by Mrs. Clarence Penwell and Mrs. Frances Grey, accompanied by Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were John Narigon, Virgil Narigon, Carl Bixler, Walter Arbuckle, A. J. Hoskinson, and Eric Bixler.
