"Sr. Marie Leonard Haslag, 71, Loose Creek native, who served as principal of St. George School in Linn from 1971 to 1979, died Sunday, December 11, 1994, at Villa Gesu, the retirement home and health care center of the School Sisters of Notre Dame located in North St. Louis County.
"Sister was born in Loose Creek Nov. 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry and Theresa Stieferman Haslag. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1942 in Lemay, Mo., and professed her vows in 1945. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Loyola University in New Orleans and a master of science degree from St. John University in Cleveland.
"Sister Marie Leonard was a junior high school teacher and principal for 34 years. In addition to serving at Linn, she also served at St. Andrew School in Lemay and St. Aloysius in Spanish Lake, both in St. Louis County. She served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in St. Louis and St. Peter in Jefferson City, as well as schools in Belleville, Ill., and Louisiana. In 1980 sister retired to Villa Gesu.
"Services were held Wednesday, December 14, at the Villa, with burial in the Villa cemetery.
"Survivors include a sister, Mary Scheulen of Jefferson City, and a brother, Aloys Haslag of Loose Creek, and several half-brothers and half-sisters."
