David was the son of Jacob and Barbara (Shelly) Bassler and husband of Sarah Clouser.

Obituary Friday, Sept. 5, 1913
David S. Bassler, the cobbler, residing on Main St. at the extreme end of town, near Coopersburg, opposite the old toll gate No. 2, a long time resident of this vicinity, having resided on the Nolf farm years ago, died Sunday night after suffering for one week with stomach trouble and acute dysentery. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, and three children, namely, Preston Bassler, of Allentown; Mrs. Samuel Hartman, of Twelth Ward, Allentown; and Miss Alice at home, also one sister Eliza, of Coopersburg, residing with the family of Morris Gehman. One son, Allen, preceded him in death several years ago. A host of grandchildren survive. The funeral will be held this morning at 9:45, from his late residence. Services and burial at the Mennonite Brethren in Christ meeting house near Coopersburg, Rev. J. M. Cassell, officiating. Mr. Bassler following the occupation of farming for many years, when he later retired and followed the shoemaker trade.
