Tom was born Thomas B. Bobbitt. According to the 1910 census his father was born in Tennessee.

He was first counted on a census as Tom B. Bobbitt, age 7, grandson, born in Arkansas in the household of his grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth (nee Rutherford) Graves and her daughter Cora S. Graves on Cleveland Street in Bald Knob, White Co., AR in 1910. His son confirmed that Cora was his mother.

His grandmother passed away in Little Rock in 1917 and he was noted as her grandson Tom Graves in her obit.

"Mrs. Nancy E. Graves, 76 years old, died at the family residence, 1318 West Sixth street, at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She is survived by two sons, Philip Graves of McRae and John Graves of Durant, Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. Cora Searles of Little Rock and one grandson, Tom Graves of Little Rock. Funeral services will be conducted from the family residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon by the Rev. A. Musser, pastor of the Capitol View Methodist church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery."

In 1920, he was living at 1318 W. Sixth Street with his mom, Cora (nee Graves) Searles, and he was Tom Graves, age 16, born in Arkansas and the head of the household. He was an employee of a movie theater.

Thomas Graves, age 25, born in Arkansas, an automobile mechanic was counted on the 1930 St Louis, St Louis (Independent City), MO census as a border.

He married first Louise C. Garrett, who was born in Prescott, Nevada Co., AR. Their daughter, Tommie Lou Graves was born 1 Oct 1932 in Little Rock, and died 21 Mar 2015 in Eureka, Humboldt Co., CA. Tom's marriage to Louise ended in divorce before 1940.

Louise married 2nd Clinton Edgar Ballard, who had previously been married Thelma Mae Brock. This marriage ended in divorce.

In 1940 Tom Graves, age 37, born in Arkansas, a divorced man was listed on the Sioux City, Woodbury Co., IA census as a lodger in the West Hotel. His occupation was a telegrapher for a steamed railroad company.

Thomas married 2nd Maudie Mae Prisbey 14 Nov 1943 in Las Vegas, Clark Co., NV per his son. They were married until his death in 1960 in Los Angeles Co.

Two children were born of this union:
John Phillip Graves and Nancy Lee Graves.
