Born in Pen Machno, Caernarvonshire. Husband of Isabella Roberts Jones. Arriving in the United States in 1860, he turned to mining as an occuapation and, before his death, he would own a slate mine and serve as president of the 1st National Bank of Delta. He was 5' 9" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Philadelphia August 22, 1862, with Battery A, 3rd Pa Art (152nd Pa), as a private. Detailed to duty aboard the gunship Schrapnel. Promoted to corporal, date unknown, and to sergeant on January 1, 1865. Honorably discharged June 14, 1865.
After the war, he served as choir director at his church for 30 years. Died of tuberculosis.
