Virgil Ray Floyd was a descendant of a long line of farmers whose ancestor immigrated from Wales to America in the 1700's to settle in Virginia and then to move on through North and South Carolina to Texas where his family settled first in Mt. Vernon, Texas and then Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas.
He was the son of Marvin Elly Floyd and Eunice Orrille Floyd and the grandson of Elly Virgil Floyd and Jesse Lea Kirk Floyd.
He married Bonnie Nell Russ Floyd and they produced five children:

Mary Floyd Hare
Virginia Elaine Floyd Davis Hare
Wanda Nell Floyd Burns
John Virgil Floyd
Virgil served as a Drill Sgt in WWII and later worked for Lone Star Steel in Lone Star, Texas for many years while he continued to raise cattle on his farm.
