Phillip R. Isley, 83 a Dallas theater entrepreneur, died Friday in a Dallas hospital.

Isley of 6553 Longfellow, was the father of actress Jennifer Jones.

Isley's motion picture career spanned almost 70 years. He had owned and performed in his own traveling tent show in Texas and Oklahoma and had worked in pawnee Bill's traveling medicine show.

He first built "10-cent theaters" in Oklahoma in the early 1900s. Gradually his chain of Phil Isley Theatres were to number over 80 film houses, covering a territory from California to Texas to Oklahoma.

He moved to Dallas in 1945, and his local theaters included the Granada, Crest, Avenue, ? and Big D drive-in. He sold the Dallas theaters 10 years ago and has been inactive in movie exhibition for most of the past decade. In 1959 and 1960 he was chief barker of the Dallas Variety Club.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy. Private burial will be at Hillcrest Mausoleum.
