ANOTHER PIONEER GONE

Mrs. Samuel H. Van Sickle died at her home in Chariton, Tuesday, May 16, 1899, in the eightieth year of her age.

Anna Louisa Palmer was born in Auburn, Cayuga county, New York, December 9, 1819. She was married on October 14, 1841, to Samuel Hyde Van Sickle and removed with her husband to Chariton in 1855, where Mr. Van Sickle died some twelve years ago.

Mrs. Van Sickle was the mother of seven children, two of whom, Mrs. Kate Gleason, and Mrs. Flora DeHerman, are living and residing in Chariton.

Mrs. Van Sickle was stricken with paralysis about a year and a half ago, since which time she has not been able to walk. A second stroke occurred on Monday causing death about twenty-four hours later.

It is needless to say that Mrs. Van Sickle, who had lived in this community nearly forty-five years, was well and favorably known by all of our people. When we remember that Lucas county was nearly all unsettled prairie when she came here, and think what it is today, we can imagine what a busy and eventful life has been that of Mrs. Van Sickle.

The funeral will take place from the home tomorrow, (Friday) at 2:30 p.m., and the interment will be in the Chariton cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all.
